Football - It’s Happening!

For NFL (National Football League) fans everywhere it is exciting that the season has started up again after the 6-month offseason. With the NFL season underway many fans have set expectations for their favorite players and teams. Who are the NFL favorites among Maui High Sabers?

Ralph Renz Arii, a Maui High Senior, states that “it feels good having football back because it gives me something to look forward to every weekend.” Arii hopes that Patriots’ rookie quarterback, Mac Jones out Alabama, “will handle the offense well and continue the success that Tom Brady left behind.”

Attending school virtually last year was a challenge. Especially for athletes who lost their season and spent the whole year wondering if and when they’d get back in action. Mr. Yap, principal of Maui High School (MHS), and president of the Maui Interscholastic League, stated,” MHS football will return, and I’m excited for our team to get on the field again!” In regards to the pro league, Yap commented “I appreciate the NFL starting again, and hopefully my Niners will do great this season!”

Teyler Kealoha is also excited for the NFL season starting up and wants to see his Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl. As a football player for the Sabers, Kealoha is grateful to have the MIL football season back as well. It “feels amazing because we finally get to showcase our talents after they suspended the season last year, and we’ve been out of the game for so long. It's good to dip our toes in the water again. Also, it can help us players get to college easier too,” said Teyler.

For Patriots and NFL superfan Devin Chee, a 2017 Maui High alumnus, “football returning is the best because it serves as a reminder that for six long months this is the sport we wait for.”

Football is a huge deal to many people in our community. With the NFL starting up once again for its 102nd season, fans are excited to watch, to have adrenaline run through their bodies, and to have something to look forward to. It’s not only about the NFL season people are excited about but the people in our own Maui community are hyped with the MIL being back in session after a year-long pause. Fans, students, and parents are now assured that their friends and children are able to play the sport they love, and also connect as a community and share the Saber Pride!
